Data brokers sell your details. Ask them to stop

Your phone number, address and relatives are listed on people-search sites. Removal is tedious but works.

· 1 min read

Search your name and city and you may find sites listing your phone number, home address, age and relatives. That data comes from data brokers, companies that collect and sell personal information. It’s also what scammers use to sound convincing, and what stalkers use to find people.

Removal takes some patience:

  • Search your name, phone and email to see which sites list you.
  • Each big site has an opt-out page. It usually asks for a link to your listing and an email confirmation.
  • Use a separate email address for opt-outs, so you don’t give them a new one.
  • Check again after a few months. Some listings come back.
  • Paid removal services do this for you every month, if your time is worth more.

Where privacy laws apply, like GDPR in Europe or Saudi Arabia’s PDPL, you can also ask companies directly what they hold about you and request deletion.
