Website analytics without tracking people
You can count visits and popular pages without cookies, cookie banners or sending visitor data to an ad company.
Most small sites install a big analytics tool out of habit, then add a cookie banner because of it, then barely look at the reports. What they usually need is simple: how many visits, which pages, where people came from.
Privacy-friendly analytics give you that without following individuals around the web. Options include Cloudflare Web Analytics, Plausible, Fathom and self-hosted tools like Umami or Matomo configured without cookies. This site uses the first one.
What to look for:
- No cookies or persistent identifiers, so in many cases no consent banner is needed. Check your local law.
- Data not shared with advertising networks.
- A small script that doesn’t slow the page down.
- Data stored where your privacy rules require.
Fewer third-party scripts also means fewer things that can be hijacked to inject code into your pages.
