Odido: telecom data published after no deal
Attackers stole data on millions of Odido customers from a contact system and began publishing it. Telecom data feeds SIM-swap fraud.
Dutch mobile operator Odido confirmed this month that attackers took data on about six million customers from a customer contact system: names, contact details, dates of birth, bank account numbers and ID document details. Reports say the attackers started publishing it after Odido refused to negotiate.
Refusing to pay was the right call. But the data is out, and it’s the kind fraudsters use for SIM swaps and convincing phone scams.
If you’re a customer of any telecom that leaks:
- Set a PIN or password on your mobile account for SIM changes and number transfers.
- Move important accounts from SMS codes to an authenticator app or passkeys.
- Be suspicious of calls that know your details. Knowing your birth date proves nothing.
For companies: contact and support systems often hold more than the main database, with weaker protection. Include them in your reviews.
