Your home router is now an office router
Remote work moved company traffic onto home networks. Ten minutes on the router makes a real difference.
Millions of people now work through the same home router that runs the kids’ games, the smart TV and a camera bought online. For most companies, that router is now part of their network, and nobody has looked at it.
Ten minutes, once:
- Change the admin password from the default on the sticker.
- Update the firmware, or turn on automatic updates if it has them.
- Use WPA2 or WPA3 Wi-Fi with a long password.
- Turn off remote administration and UPnP if you don’t need them.
- Put guests and smart devices on the guest network.
- If the router is very old and gets no updates, replace it. They’re cheap compared to an incident.
Companies can help: send a one-page guide, and offer to pay for a new router for staff who need one.
