Relief payment scams are everywhere

Governments are sending emergency money, and scammers are sending fake “claim your payment” messages.

· 1 min read

Governments are paying emergency support to people and businesses. Scammers moved just as fast: texts and emails saying “claim your relief payment here”, fake government websites, and calls offering to speed up a grant for a fee.

What they want is your bank details, ID number, or a fee.

Simple rules:

  • Governments don’t ask for fees to receive support.
  • Don’t click links in messages about payments. Type the official government address yourself.
  • Nobody official will ask for your banking password or a code sent to your phone.
  • Businesses applying for loans or grants: beware of “consultants” who contact you first.

Please share this with older relatives. They’re being targeted most, often by phone.
